Compliance with standards.
We are aware of the problems our planet is facing, and we follow rigorous processes for protecting it.
Our R&D department is constantly working on developing new water-based lacquers that are eco-friendly and safe. More importantly, the wood we manage is collected following strict guidelines for environmental and forestry protection to preserve the natural ecosystem.
FSC® certification
The Minelli group is one of the first companies to be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council®, which guarantees that the raw material comes from responsibly managed forests and provides environmental, social, and economic benefits to local communities. This maintains the forests’ biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes.
Minelli’s DNA has always focused on sustainability.
Our first certification was in 1999, when it was not a standard yet. This demonstrates our dedication to pursue an ethically responsible manufacturing model that we continue to carefully respect today. That’s why we use only 100% ecological wood selected from certified forestsEUTR 995
EU Timber Regulation was introduced in 2013 to control operators and traders that place timber and wooden products on the European market. It has three main features:
- Prohibits placing illegally harvested timber and products derived from it on the EU market
- Requires traders who place timber products on the EU market to introduce a “due diligence” internal system to manage the risk of illegally harvested timber entering their supply chain
- Requires traders to monitor their supply chain
The wood we manage doesn’t come from any area of risk, so Minelli easily complies with EUTR 995.
Our raw materials are traced depending on the Customs Code defined by the revenue office. We keep track of every single piece we import, which even includes those that don’t need this control measure.
The Lacey Act is very similar to EUTR 995 but is valid for trade in the United States. It was introduced in the 20th century to ban trafficking in illegal wildlife. In 2008, it was amended to include plants and plant products, such as timber and paper. It is the world’s first ban on trading in illegally sourced wood products and has established penalties for different violations.
REACH
REACH (EC 1907/2006) is a European Union regulation that aims to protect human health and the environment from the potential risks caused by some chemical substances. Our company meets the required standards, as we have adopted a strict policy of risk management to identify and control possible dangers linked to the chemicals we use.
Sustainable logistics
Our main goal is to shorten the process that raw materials go through to reach production in order to reduce the carbon footprint and make our logistics more sustainable.
Our solution for logistics
Transport logistics, which means the movement of goods from one place to another, has a great environmental impact due to pollution caused by vehicle emissions into the atmosphere, on the land, or in the water.
In line with our goal, we have production plants in both Europe and the United States, where most wood is gathered. In this way, we can directly produce our wooden components where raw material is collected. This is the best way to limit the impact of transportation on the environment.
Circular economy model
We firmly believe that how we manage resources and what we do with discarded materials can make a significant difference.
Every day our wood processing machines create a large amount of sawdust and waste. Following the principles of a circular economy to keep products and material in use, during the winter we turn shavings into precious resources to fuel our heating systems and heat drying chambers.
By following this practice, we can save energy with less impact on the planet. During the summer, we distribute excess waste to the livestock sector.
Wood waste recycling
We also use wood waste derived from large products, e.g., gunstocks, to create smaller objects, which represent 90% of our total production, such as cosmetics and spirits caps, and toothbrushes. This significantly reduces the waste of wood, as we reuse production scraps to create other wooden components.
Minelli S.p.A. is particularly focused on responsible energy usage.
We periodically conduct an energy audit, and every day we monitor our main consumption, adopting whenever possible energy-efficient implants and technologies.
